Our benefit sale to raise money to buy Bednets for Haiti this
past summer was very successful. Funds were raised to purchase 244
Bednets. Delores Norton and Roberta Lott co-chaired this event.
Earlier, we had distributed 100 Bednets to the families at the clinic
where we distributed supplemental food.
These Bednets are treated with an insecticide which is supposed
to last 4-5 years. Four family members should be able to sleep under
it. They will protect them from mosquito bites during the night.
Malaria and other diseases that are caused by mosquito bites are
very prevalent here in Haiti. Many persons die or are debilitated
by these diseases.
At least 12 churches donated items for the sale and 49 persons
volunteered to help during the 3 day sale. Thanks so much to everyone
who donated and helped. My dream is to stamp out these preventable
diseases here in Haiti. These Bednets cost about $6.50, since we
buy them here and do not need to pay shipping or customs.
